Rosie O'Donnell Relocates to Ireland, Citing Political Climate in the U.S.
Rosie O'Donnell, the renowned comedian, actress, and former talk-show host, has officially made Ireland her new home. In a candid video shared on TikTok, O'Donnell opened up about her decision to relocate, emphasizing both the warm reception she has received abroad and the deep political concerns that motivated her move.
A New Chapter in Ireland
O'Donnell, who moved to Ireland on January 15, expressed her appreciation for the country's hospitality.
"It's been pretty wonderful, I have to say," O'Donnell shared. "The people are so loving and so kind, so welcoming. And I'm very grateful."
Despite not initially anticipating such a significant move, O'Donnell revealed that the political climate in the U.S., particularly following Donald Trump’s recent election victory, played a pivotal role in her decision.
"It's been heartbreaking to see what's happening politically and hard for me personally as well," she said. "The personal is political, as we all know."
Navigating Change and Homesickness
While settling into her new life abroad, O'Donnell acknowledged the challenges of adjusting to a new environment, particularly being away from loved ones. She relocated with her 12-year-old child, Clay, but admitted that she deeply misses her other children and close friends.
"I miss my other kids. I miss my friends," she confessed. "I miss many things about life there at home, and I'm trying to find a home here in this beautiful country."
O'Donnell also underscored that her move is not necessarily permanent.
"When it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America, that’s when we will consider coming back."
Political Activism and Advocacy
O'Donnell has long been vocal about her political stance, and she used this opportunity to encourage Americans to remain engaged in civic discourse and action.
"I encourage everyone to stand up, to use their voice, to protest, to demand that we follow the Constitution in our country, and not a king — not a man — and we don’t have cruelty as part of our governing style."
Her remarks reflect a broader sentiment shared by several celebrities who have expressed disillusionment with the political landscape in the U.S. Public figures such as Christina Applegate, Stephen King, Billie Eilish, Bette Midler, and Sophia Bush have all voiced similar concerns in recent months.
Moving Forward
While Rosie O'Donnell's relocation may be driven by political dissatisfaction, she remains committed to advocating for change. Her message to Americans is clear: protect your mental well-being, stay informed, and use your voice to fight for a just and equitable society.
Whether her stay in Ireland is temporary or permanent remains uncertain, but her commitment to political activism and social justice remains unwavering.
