Billy Joel Postpones Eight Concerts to Prioritize Recovery
Legendary singer-songwriter Billy Joel has announced the postponement of eight upcoming concerts as he prioritizes his health and recovery following recent surgery. The 75-year-old musician shared the update with fans via Facebook on Tuesday, emphasizing that while he regrets rescheduling performances, his well-being must come first.
Joel is currently undergoing physical therapy under medical supervision and is expected to make a full recovery. The statement reassured fans that all concerts scheduled from July 5, 2025, onward will proceed as planned.
Health Comes First
"While I regret postponing any shows, my health must come first," Joel said in his statement. "I look forward to getting back on stage and sharing the joy of live music with our amazing fans. Thank you for your understanding."
Although no further details regarding his medical condition were disclosed, Joel had a health scare in June when he fell on stage during a concert in Connecticut. Fortunately, he was able to continue the performance at the time.
Rescheduled Tour Dates and Ticket Information
Fans who had purchased tickets for the postponed shows need not worry, as previously bought tickets will be honored for the rescheduled dates. Refunds for first-hand ticket purchases will also be available.
Seven of the postponed concerts have already been rescheduled, starting in November in Detroit and continuing through at least early July 2026 in Charlotte, North Carolina. However, the April 26, 2025, concert originally planned for Milwaukee's American Family Field has yet to receive a new date.
A Look Back at Joel’s Recent Performances
Earlier this year, Joel postponed a concert at Florida's Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood due to a medical procedure. That show has been rescheduled for November.
Despite these setbacks, the "Piano Man" has continued to captivate audiences with his music. In July, he wrapped up his decade-long residency at Madison Square Garden, where he performed over 100 sold-out shows. Reflecting on the experience, Joel expressed gratitude for his time at the iconic venue.
"I'm going to miss doing it a lot," he shared in an interview last year. "The band loves it. The crowd is a New York-crazy crowd. The minute you walk onstage, you’re aware they’re rooting for you. The only way you could mess up that gig is to try to screw it up."
Looking Ahead
As fans eagerly await his return to the stage, Joel remains committed to his recovery, ensuring he can deliver the exceptional performances that have defined his career. His dedication to his health and well-being highlights the importance of self-care, even for a legendary performer with an unwavering passion for music.
