Lakers vs. Nuggets: Player Grades from a Dominant 123-100 Victory

In what could easily be considered one of their most impressive wins of the season, the Los Angeles Lakers delivered a dominant 123-100 victory over the Denver Nuggets. The Lakers were unstoppable on both ends of the floor, outscoring Denver in the paint 52-30 and maintaining control throughout the game. With Luka Dončić showcasing his brilliance, this game surely has the potential to be the highlight of their season.

As always, player grades are based on each individual’s expected performance. A “B” grade represents a standard outing for the player, with any higher marks awarded for exceeding those expectations.

Rui Hachimura – B+

36 minutes, 21 points, 4 assists, 1 steal, 7-12 FG, 4-9 3PT, 3-4 FT, +14

Rui Hachimura played a stellar offensive game, scoring 21 points, hitting four 3-pointers, and showcasing his aggression inside. However, his rebounding was a notable weakness—despite playing 36 minutes, Hachimura failed to secure a single rebound. This was an outlier performance, but it’s a facet of his game that needs attention moving forward.

LeBron James – A

33 minutes, 25 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal, 3 blocks, 11-19 FG, 1-4 3PT, 2-3 FT, +9

LeBron didn’t need to play at an MVP level for the Lakers to win, but he still showed why he’s one of the greatest. From alley-oop dunks to clutch passes, LeBron was in control. His ability to switch gears when needed was a key to this win, and with the addition of Luka Dončić, the potential for a dynamic duo is real.

Jaxson Hayes – B+

25 minutes, 4 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 block, 2-3 FG, +8

Since the Anthony Davis trade, Jaxson Hayes has improved his level of play, and this game was no exception. Though he wasn’t a high scorer, Hayes contributed solid defense and limited mistakes. A few more points and rebounds would help, but his steady play has made him a reliable presence in the Lakers' lineup.

Austin Reaves – A-

33 minutes, 23 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists, 1 block, 7-13 FG, 4-7 3PT, 5-6 FT, +13

Austin Reaves continues to shine with his all-around game. He’s adjusting well to Luka’s presence, maintaining his playmaking duties, and his scoring continues to rise. Reaves’ 23-point performance added another layer of depth to the Lakers’ offense.

Luka Dončić – A+

31 minutes, 32 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists, 4 steals, 1 block, 10-22 FG, 4-9 3PT, 8-8 FT, +20

Luka Dončić played the game of his career in a Lakers uniform. He was engaged, aggressive, and did it all—scoring, facilitating, and even playing some fiery defense. His passing was magical, and every time Denver seemed to gain momentum, Luka quelled it with a timely bucket or assist. This was just a glimpse of what’s to come from Luka in a Lakers jersey.

Dorian Finney-Smith – B+

27 minutes, 3 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, 1-5 FG, 1-4 3PT, +21

Finney-Smith played his usual solid defensive game, leading the team in plus-minus with a +21. While his offensive production was limited, his defensive presence was invaluable. The Lakers are simply better with him on the floor, regardless of his scoring.

Gabe Vincent – B-

20 minutes, 3 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1-4 FG, 1-4 3PT, +17

Gabe Vincent struggled to find his shot and didn’t have a major impact on defense. While he’s generally a reliable veteran, his performance in this game wasn’t up to par. If he can find his rhythm in future games, he will be an asset to the team.

Jordan Goodwin – A

11 minutes, 5 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist, 2 steals, 2-3 FG, 1-2 3PT, +6

Jordan Goodwin’s 11-minute stint was a highlight of the game. As a two-way player, he made the most of his opportunities, scoring, defending, and applying pressure on the ball. He could be in line for a more permanent role, as he showcased his potential during crucial moments of the game.

Other Players (Jarred Vanderbilt, Dalton Knecht, Shake Milton, Alex Len, Trey Jemison III)

While Vanderbilt and Knecht were close to earning grades for their short stints, they didn’t play enough minutes to warrant a review. Milton, Len, and Jemison only participated in garbage time and didn’t impact the outcome of the game.

Coach JJ Redick – A+

JJ Redick’s coaching deserves special mention. His meticulous preparation paid off as the team executed the game plan flawlessly. Redick made strategic decisions, including challenging two calls and winning both, and tightened the rotation to perfection. His leadership is proving to be a crucial factor in the Lakers’ success.

Conclusion The Lakers’ 123-100 victory over the Nuggets was a statement win, with each player contributing to the team’s success. Luka Dončić’s performance was particularly impressive, setting the tone for a bright future with the Lakers. With excellent contributions from LeBron, Reaves, and Hachimura, the Lakers look like a complete team heading into the rest of the season.

Stay tuned for more player updates and analysis as the Lakers continue their pursuit of an NBA title.
